Role Overview


This role will serve to help manage the procurement for manufacturing of Great Minds book inventory for filling customer orders which is over 5,000 GM titles. This inventory procurement value is expected to total approximately $80M in ’23. This role will work closely with the Demand Planning team to effectively plan for all book purchasing activities – paper sourcing, product sample reviews, vendor RFPs, vendor negotiation, PO issuance, PO tracking, plant visits, development of product specs, evaluation of finished goods, conduct QBRs, etc. This role has a significant influence on how GM manages over 50 million books in stock at the start of peak season and works with the GM teams to build scalable systems for the 20,000 ISBNs that we provide to our customers.



Specific Responsibilities:

  • Essential procurement activities -- Initial assessment of which vendors are in play for a particular job; initiating a high-level conversation about the size, timing and products needing to be produced; tracking available manufacturing capacity for current and upcoming print needs; issuance of RFQs to the vendors; tracking RFQs in process; negotiating pricing where possible; quote award – verbal/email and Intacct; Extensive communication using Excel files to/from suppliers; monitoring of orders in process, flag delays when applicable; resolving product substitution/last minute changes
  • Regularly meet with vendors and inspect facilities; conduct QBRs; identify potential new print vendors and evaluate as required with site visits, print samples, contract terms, etc.
  • Weekly meetings with printers to review orders status reports; participate in gauging supplier performance levels; support efforts to confirm print product receipt status at warehouses
  • Tracking projected order shipment timing; resolving timing and qty issues as those appear
  • Interacting with paper mills when required
  • Interacting with printers and warehouses resolving print quality concerns

Job requirements

Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of similar paper and/or book procurement experience
  • Experience in the K12 and/or higher ed book procurement
  • Experience with Excel and one or multiple enterprise systems (SalesForce, Intacct, LogPro, NetSuite)
  • Strong detail orientation and accuracy in work products
  • Exceptionally strong interpersonal, teamwork communication skills.

Education

  • Bachelors degree in a business, math, economics, supply chain or related field
