ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY


THIS IS A JOB POSTING FOR US PERFORMANCE ACADEMY, INC. (“USPA”). Any successful applicant will be an employee of USPA.


USPA is seeking a dynamic, technologically-savvy, licensed School Psychologist and Learning Strategist for its Great Minds Program which it expects to commence instruction in Fall 2022. USPA’s Great Minds Program will be conducted in consultation with Great Minds, a District of Columbia nonprofit corporation and 501(c)(3) organization.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Employees are expected to perform the duties and responsibilities outlined in the policies and contract. The performance standards listed below represent the essential functions of the job.


The School Psychologist and Learning Strategist is an important member of the community, and works with all constituents -- students, families, faculty, administration and staff. This person provides strategies of prevention, intervention, and remediation to assist others in developing effective coping skills and responses to their environments. Beyond working directly with students and student groups, the School Psychologist and Learning Strategist is required to collaborate frequently with families, faculty, administrators, and other professionals in the school to strengthen connections between home and school for all students. This will include counseling, mentoring, and instructional services to help promote wellness by reinforcing strong communication, problem-solving, self-regulation or social skills.


In addition to coordinating outside referrals and collecting feedback from outside neuropsychological evaluations, the School Psychologist and Learning Strategist is also involved in evaluating eligibility for learning accommodations, assessing standardized testing results, making referrals to help coordinate community support, identifying standardized tests and learning support accommodations, applying for achievement test accommodations, implementing school-wide health and wellness initiatives including teaching lessons.


We seek a professional with an understanding of the social and emotional development of children and adolescents, as well as familiarity with middle and high school curriculum and instruction. Candidates should believe in lifelong learning, scholarly inquiry, and problem solving in the context of an evolving body of professional knowledge.


Student Needs and Growth

  • Engages in culturally relevant, psychologically appropriate and evidence-based psychotherapeutic interventions.
  • Collaborates with students to identify areas of difficulty, facilitating goal-setting and action plans.
  • Enjoys working with students across a wide range of abilities and interests.
  • Demonstrates a belief in all students' ability to succeed and meet high expectations.
  • Interacts with students in a manner that encourages respectful relationships among students and teachers.
  • Promotes the development of self-esteem in students.
  • Uses quantitative and qualitative data to work with students, faculty, administration and families to support student social, emotional and academic goals.
  • Brings knowledge of and applies current school-based psychological intervention theory, research, and best practices.
  • Designs, promotes and implements programs to reinforce a positive and safe learning environments.
  • Provide counseling services and connect families with licensed professionals in their home states.

Faculty Collaboration and Family Partnerships

  • Counsels parents and teachers to create restorative approaches to learning, behavioral, familial, and social challenges.
  • Provides professional development for faculty and administrators related to student accommodations, differentiation, learning strategies, accessibility, and health/wellness.
  • Provides leadership in crisis situations.
  • Collaborate with the Assistant Head of School on addressing student behavior and culture.

Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (DEIA)

  • Promotes and applies the tenants of diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility.
  • Demonstrates sensitivity and responsiveness to cultural diversity and an understanding of persons in their environment.

Technology Skills

  • Expertly maneuvers and utilizes a variety of technology tools for communication, data collection/analysis, collaboration, and organization.
  • Research and utilize assistive technology for student needs.
  • Applies a variety of technology tools related to curricular differentiation and learning strategies.
  • Maintains expertise in educational technology (edtech) trends.
  • Seeks training and practice with edtech tools.

Professionalism

  • Establishes and pursues goals to improve professional competence.
  • Works in a supportive and collaborative role with school personnel (teachers, administrators, and staff) to benefit students.
  • Maintains knowledge of current trends in the field through professional activities (e.g. attending professional meetings, enrolling in relevant courses, reading relevant literature).
  • Maintains comprehensive written records and documentation related to student support and family partnerships.
  • Adheres to School policies and procedures.
  • Identifies School or curriculum problems and suggests appropriate solutions.

Job requirements

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Must have a master's degree or higher in school psychology approved by National Association of School Psychologists (NASP), including an advanced practicum of 1,200 hours, 600 of which must be in a school setting.
  • At least three years of school experience with preferably at least one in a virtual or blended setting, preferably at the 6-12 level
  • Experience working in a startup or school-founding environment preferred
  • Experience working in an independent school preferred
  • Strong preference for Orton-Gillingham certification

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Prolonged periods of stationary position while working on a computer

TRAVEL: This position may travel approximately 5% of the time, depending on location, to participate in quarterly and/or annual team meetings (average of 1–5 times/year).

The salary range displayed is specifically for those potential hires who will work or reside in the state of Colorado if selected for the role. For residents of the State of Colorado the expected salary range for this position is $70,000.00 - $75,000.00. This range may vary above and below the expected amounts in the State of Colorado. In addition to the Company's benefit offerings, the position may be eligible for additional annual incentives at the Company's discretion. Any offered salary and other incentives are based on market data, applicant skills and relevant experience, degrees, certifications and internal equity considerations.
