Location 

Remote.  Travel may be required approximately 5-10% of the time to participate in team meetings (average of 1-3 times/year). Participation in regular virtual meetings with multiple teams also required.

 

Position Brief 

Great Minds, a rapidly growing organization that develops world-class curricula for grades PK-12, seeks a Managing Editor for Content Development in English for a nine- to twelve-month project. The managing editor will work hands on with a team of Curriculum Developers and the larger Great Minds Humanities team to develop curricula, products, and processes to help expand Great Minds’ English curriculum, Wit & Wisdom®, at the high school level. The ideal candidate is an expert manager of people and projects who possesses high school English content and pedagogical expertise, an understanding of intellectual rigor, passion for high quality curriculum, attention to detail, and the belief that every child is capable of greatness. 

 

Reporting directly to the Editorial Director, Humanities, the Managing Editor for Content Development in English will be responsible for developing excellent content and providing pro-active and effective management of the High School English Content Development team’s processes and members. Through exceptional professionalism and communication, the Managing Editor will help guide and shape the curriculum strategy, from concept, writing, and editing of content to product life cycle implementation for multiple projects.  As a manager, the Managing Editor will monitor and manage a team, facilitate cross-team communications, collaborate with other teams and departments, and coordinate team scheduling and meetings.  This is an exceptional opportunity for a skilled manager and writer to implement and contribute to Great Mind’s organizational mission to create curriculum and resources that ensure all students have access to a quality education in the full range of liberal arts and sciences.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

The duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

Content Development

  • Embrace and exemplify an academic mindset that values an iterative cycle of ideation, thought partnering, prototyping, drafting, development, review, and revision.
  • Execute and contribute to the vision of Great Minds' content development strategic plan by conceptualizing, writing, and content editing a range of products
  • Collaborate within and across teams to develop, launch, and implement curriculum and curriculum-support resources

 Team Coordination/Management

  • Develop and maintain team communications, resources, schedules, and work plans with a pro-active, problem-solving approach
  • Support Great Minds culture in all work environments, with an emphasis on trust, collegiality, continuous improvement, and quality
  • Contribute to the management of cross-team relationships
  • Collaborate with Associate Director on execution of solutions-oriented internal team and cross-team systems

Product Management

  • Develop and maintain processes, tools, and strategies for the development and execution of content projects
  • Represent the Content Development team in communications with internal and external stakeholders with professionalism and proficiency
  • Ensure and adhere to a task- and deadline-driven work flow
  • Problem solve to create high-quality products by established deadlines

Requirements

Relevant Experience and Skills

  • Deep content knowledge in English, Literature, or associated content area
  • Superior writing ability and demonstrated editing skills
  • Proficiency with or alignment to Wit & Wisdom’s instructional design and pedagogy
  • Deep understanding of the Common Core Standards preferred
  • Demonstrated practice in helping students build evidence-based speaking and writing 
  • Curriculum writing experience preferred
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience as a classroom teacher or educator
  • Management or experience with the product life cycle of ideation, drafting, and iterating
