The Lead Facilitator, Humanities supports Great Minds in its mission to promote effective adoption and implementation of all Humanities curricula.


The Lead Facilitator reports to the designated regional PD Program Manager and plays a critical role in the execution of professional development, in particular in the South region. The Lead Facilitator is responsible for:

  1. Delivering the full suite of in-person Wit & Wisdom professional development sessions to the first cohort of Wit & Wisdom Content Leader Candidates in Louisiana.
  2. Ensuring that all Content Leader Candidates receive the support and development they need to complete certification and become effective Content Leaders.
  3. Providing routine assessment and feedback opportunities to Content Leader Candidates as they prepare assessments for certification.
  4. Delivering onsite, job-embedded coaching, as needed, for the Louisiana Content Leader training program.
  5. Facilitating professional development to educators across the nation, as needed.
  6. Ensuring that Great Minds’ partners understand the philosophy and best practices at the foundation of Great Minds’ curricula and support.


The Lead Facilitator will contribute to the Great Minds Humanities implementation success strategy, including:

  • Executing high-quality professional development which models Great Minds’ PD principles.
  • Delivering onsite, job-embedded coaching to educators enrolled in the Content Leader Training program.
  • Ensuring that Great Minds’ partners (both internal and external) understand the philosophy and best practices at the foundation of Great Minds’ curricula and support.
  • Identifying categories of partner needs, and addressing those needs directly or through consultation with other Great Minds’ teams.
  • Periodically observing on-site to gather data for long-term implementation and PD planning.


The Lead Facilitator is responsible for executing PD sessions with integrity in order to support the effective re-delivery of Humanities PD by educators enrolled in the Louisiana Content Leader Training program. The Lead Facilitator maintains intimate knowledge of the full Humanities professional development suite. The Lead Facilitator demonstrates exceptional professionalism and communication skills.


This role is an exciting opportunity for a skilled instructional coach and educational leader to implement and contribute to Great Mind’s organizational mission to support curriculum and resources that ensure all students have access to a quality education in the full range of liberal arts and sciences.



Great Minds is headquartered in Washington, D.C.; however, many members of our team work remotely. This position requires residence in Louisiana.


Reports To

Designated Regional Professional Development Program Manager



The Lead Facilitator will travel approximately 40%-50% of the time, depending on location, to:

  • Facilitate in-person Professional Development.
  • Observe Content Leader educators deliver professional development sessions.
  • Participate in annual or biannual team meetings (average of 1-2 times a year).


Core Responsibilities

The duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:


Content Leader Support

  • Deliver virtual and in-person content, following a scope and sequence, and making necessary adjustments to ensure participant success.
  • Build supportive, collegial relationships with course participants.
  • Assess course participants’ work, providing feedback that supports participants with successfully completing certification.
  • Support teachers in improving their craft and delivering high-quality lessons.
  • Support teachers with delivery of Great Minds professional development at their school sites.


Professional Development Facilitation

  • Plan, facilitate, and debrief in-person professional development sessions.
  • Support development of facilitators to successfully execute professional development for external partners.
  • Train educators to re-deliver professional development.
  • Evaluate execution of professional development sessions and provide feedback to foster growth and improve facilitator practice.


Capacity Building

  • Cultivate and maintain a strong and supportive Great Minds culture in all work environments, with an emphasis on trust, collegiality, curiosity, and quality.
  • Promote and support delivery of Great Minds professional development so that:
    • Effective adoption and implementation of the curricula is maximized.
    • Great Minds strategic goals are prioritized.
    • Decisions support efficient use of personnel and materials.
    • The reputation of Great Minds is held in the highest regards.
  • Provide timely communication with PD Program Manager related to risks, feedback, and other matters relevant to Great Minds and its mission.
  • Contribute to the development of a network of advocates for the mission of Great Minds.

Content Development

  • Provide input on the development of facilitator-support resources.
  • Provide input on the scope and sequence of the Content Leader Training course.



Relevant Experience and Skills

  • Experience teaching or leading Wit & Wisdom.
  • Experience in educational coaching and/or professional development.
  • Minimum of 5-7 years teaching experience.
  • Deep content knowledge in English Language Arts with a bachelor’s or master’s degree in an associated content area.
  • Knowledge of the Common Core State Standards.
  • Superior writing and communication skills.
