Job Purpose

PhD Science Text Specialists will play an active role in achieving the organizational mission of Great Minds through collaboration with the programs team to develop a comprehensive science curriculum and related offerings. This is an exceptional opportunity for a smart, dedicated, and passionate individual to apply their skills to support the business growth and mission of Great Minds


  • Collaborate with content and editorial teams to support the development of NGSS-aligned PhD Science curricular products associated with the specialty area
  • Conduct research to identify, evaluate, and procure high quality print assets including books, articles, photos, illustrations, etc. from vetted, reputable sources that support science content and align with NGSS standards
  • Curate text materials through communication and collaboration with publishers
  • Meet regularly with content teams throughout development to liaise with writers and assessment specialists regarding integrating appropriate texts into the curriculum
  • Develop and maintain a successful text selection and approval process across PhD Science projects
  • Work with assets and permissions and materials teams to maintain detailed records of texts used in content
  • Assess trade texts for suitability in terms of readability metrics, qualitative and quantitative complexity, and scientific accuracy
  • Develop custom informational texts in collaboration with the science editorial team as driven by content development needs
  • Recommend and codify instructional supports that teachers can implement to ensure texts are accessible to all learners
  • Contribute to the creation of engaging professional development curriculum and present at programs, workshops, and institutes offered by Great Minds PBC



  • Bachelors or Masters in library science or other associated area related to publishing or text research
  • Excellent research skills, with a meticulous attention to details and an ability to evaluate texts and artwork for quality, accessibility, authenticity, and cultural sensitivity
  • Deep knowledge of curriculum design using the Common Core ELA standards
  • Proficient understanding of historic and contemporary trends in literature, especially for ages 11-16
  • Demonstrated professional writing ability
  • Preferred 3+ years of teaching experience at the level of the position (either elementary, MS, or HS)
  • Comfortable with technology and able to learn new applications
