The Copy Edit Coordinator supports the Production Services area at Great Minds, a rapidly growing nonprofit organization developing world-class curricula for Grades PK–12. The Copy Edit Coordinator will oversee the scheduling and resource allocation of projects, as assigned by the Copy Edit Manager, and liaise with suppliers, project managers, freelancers, and internal teams. The Copy Edit Coordinator will provide a critical eye to various projects across content areas and within the organization by copyediting and proofreading curricular materials, proposals, presentations, website copy, and other pieces using the house style guide, Chicago Manual of Style (CMOS), content-specific checklists, and preset templates.

 

Although Great Minds is based in Washington, DC, the duties of this position can be performed remotely. The Copy Edit Coordinator will report to and work at the direction of the Copy Edit Manager.

 

Responsibilities

  • Manage select copyediting projects, including setting schedules and determining resources, in collaboration with the Copy Edit Manager
  • Monitor the copy edit phase of production schedules, assign tasks to established resources, obtain progress reports, and communicate task progress to project managers and the Copy Edit Manager
  • Ensure information in readily available for staff and outsourced freelancers and suppliers to complete copyediting tasks
  • Work in a task-based workflow management system to manage and distribute copyediting tasks to team members and resources needed to accomplish copyediting for large projects
  • Keep project staff informed of changes and developments throughout each project
  • Work with members of the Copy Edit Team, freelancers, and outsourced teams to estimate task durations
  • Represent the Copy Edit Team at departmental and project meetings as necessary
  • Create checklists and guidelines for specific projects
  • Employ copyediting skills as needed
  • Liaise with other staff on specific projects
  • Communicate regularly with content teams and suppliers regarding project requirements
  • Guide the completion of projects to meet deadlines
  • Maintain skills and familiarity with the most current edition of MS Word
  • Use SharePoint and other document management sites as appropriate
  • Perform other tasks related to document management as directed

Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • Four-year degree in English, communications, or related field
  • Minimum of two years of managing projects of various size, scope, and complexity
  • Minimum of two years of copyediting experience, preferably in educational publishing
  • Knowledge of and experience with Chicago Manual of Style
  • Exceptional organizational skills
  • Experience working with freelance and outsource teams
  • Experience using track changes in MS Word and online editorial tools in Acrobat Pro
  • Experience with SharePoint or other document management programs
  • Experience with Smartsheet or similar project management software
  • Experience with task-based workflow management platforms
  • Outstanding written and oral communication skills
  • Detail-oriented to the smallest degree but also able to see the big picture
  • Maintain high-quality work and thrive in a deadline-driven, high-volume production environment
  • Personable with ability to maintain sense of humor under pressure
  • High degree of professionalism
