Role Overview

The science content editor (Assessment) ensures that all PhD Science assessment content meets our quality standards for scientific accuracy, clarity, and style. A successful assessment editor demonstrates scientific understanding, English language expertise, strong communication skills, attention to detail, and a collaborative spirit.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Edits Science assessments within the Learnosity platform, ensuring quality in pedagogy, science, and language
  • Liaises with curriculum writers, science editors, managing editors re content accuracy, project quality, and product consistency
  • Verifies coding used for assessment tracking to ensure proper reporting
  • Inputs existing assessments that are being repurposed into Learnosity
  • Trains others in editing/authoring in Learnosity
  • Collaborating with members of the Science department, including assessment developers, curriculum developers, subject matter experts, science writing editors, and project managers, to develop scientifically rich, authentic assessment
  • Revising content for scientific accuracy, consistency, logical flow, style, clarity, and grade-level appropriateness
  • Ensuring content meets the Great Minds Editorial Style Guide, the PhD Science Style Guide, and DEI guidelines
  • Reviewing assets, copy edits, and final output for accuracy
  • Completing work in a timely manner to meet established deadlines

Job requirements

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in science, engineering, or related field; Master’s degree in science-related field or education a plus
  • Minimum experience of 3 years writing or editing science curricula or other scientific publications
  • Familiarity with the Next Generation Science Standards; familiarity with Common Core State Standards a plus
  • Experience implementing house editorial guidelines; familiarity with The Chicago Manual of Style a plus
  • Meticulous approach to work and an eye for detail while maintaining a perspective of the totality of the project
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines while maintaining the quality of the product
  • Ability to follow explicit instructions consistently but also to exercise good judgment when making work-related decisions
  • Ability to positively receive and implement constructive feedback
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with peers

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to quickly learn and master new technologies and processes
  • Experience with Microsoft Office products; experience with Adobe products a plus
  • Experience with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines a plus
